AutoGator sure does stir up the imagination. It is an auto/truck salvage yard established on the outskirts of Sacramento. What I imagine is a huge gator just ripping apart the junk vehicles. However, that is really farther from the truth.
With careful thought, Ron Dumas has redesigned his company’s work environment in order to meet industrial stormwater compliance while still running a profitable business. In his mind, he knew that both had to go hand-in-hand for one has to make the necessary profits to keep the doors open while getting the exiting stormwater into compliance to keep the environmental gators away!
The bodies of the trucks/cars were organized – drained on all fluids. The footwell car mats were taken out and placed strategically underneath the power train. Super Smart Move!
But his stormwater outfall was still out of compliance in meeting his benchmarks. So he built his stormwater filter out of two concrete basin that were interconnected. And unfortunately did not get the removals he was envisioning. Then he heard of the Gullywasher Method.
Ron invited us over and had us look into what we could do for his operation. He was willing to spend the serious money to achieve the stormwater benchmark compliance he so needed in order to keep those regulatory ‘gators’ away.

However, once we had a deeper understanding of the concrete filter structure; it was apparent that we could easily modify the internals and rebed this filter with our MetalCompliant biochar mix. The total cost installed was about $3,800.
For Ron’s great efforts, AutoGator was granted a BASELINE Status on reporting year 2017-2018 and still in compliance. In the last 5 years we have only replace the media once.
What is really great about these numbers are that the percentages for Copper, Lead and Zinc are well below the 50% level for this permit cycle. However, one can see the media breakthrough point in the recent results.
What is great about teaming up with Ron’s stormwater management is that he caught a problem we had with our proprietary media; one of our media suppliers changed to a cheaper grade without telling us! Took us forever (6 weeks!) to figure out what was actually happening due to not getting the actual truth when confronting this supplier.
The end result is that we now deal only with the actual media manufacturers and mix all of our products within our hydraulics lab. We own our quality controls and assurances.
